About us

The Colorifics

Executed with poise, class, professionalism and a lot of sass, the music of the Colorifics is a welcome refreshment for the musical soul. Their live shows energize crowds with a constant stream of color; mixing different genres and rhythms into a tapestry of sweet melodies and rich harmonies. With original songs rivalling jazz standards of the past and pop hits of today, the band's sound exudes a familiar simplicity while drawing the more experienced ear towards their unique arrangements.

Sounds like...

The Colorifics repertoire is infused with an exciting flare of bohemian-cabaret and originally-spun tributes to the dirty 30's, 40's jazz, and 60's surf and Beatles pop era. The four members make use of three and four part harmony, acoustic and electric guitar, gypsy-jazz fiddle, flute, trumpet, and latin-jazz-rock percussion; giving a sizeable amount of sound layering to their songs. Writing tunes meant to be catchy, danceable, and seamlessly multi-genre in basis, these high calibre musicians bring light to any stage and movement to any audience.

Back it up, please!

Formed in 1995, the band has toured nationally and internationally, released 4 full-length albums to critical acclaim, and played for international festivals, high calibre corporate gigs, and Vancouver's largest soft seat theatres. After selling out of CD's at the 2009 Vancouver Jazz Festival, the Colorifics are finalizing their new album for sale this 2010 spring. With the recent addition of singer Melissa Bandura, the band is exploring new melodic heights. Melissa's smoky sweet sound, sultry stage presence and tasty violin forays infuse the Colorifics with new energy and vitality.

Don't take our word for it...

If I had the authority, I'd make up a new category for them. I'd call it Gumbo. You throw everything together, It's spicy and it cooks!
ARNE MOEN - SEE Magazine
They're hypnotic, running the gamut of classic styles and genres from calypso to flamenco. Their songs sound so right you can't believe they're originals. The lyrics are naughty and clever and the performers are sexy and beautiful.
SEAN NELSON - The Stranger
With the Colorifics, listeners get both a great show and beautiful memorable songs.
NINA PEARLMAN - NW Review
The sweaty crowd surrenders itself to the sweet vibe and floats with the demon overhead into a decidedly surreal space where acrylic soccer shirts, indiglo timepieces and thin lapelled suits blend in perfect harmony. For Vancouver's Colorifics it's just another night of doing what they do best.
KATHERINE MONK - The Vancouver Sun
