Introducing our members

Bernard Boulanger (Electric and Accoustic Guitars, Trumpet, Vocals)

Bernard Boulanger was born into a musically inclined family and has had no formal training since taking up the guitar at age 18 He enjoyed a brief stint of rock and roll high school with The Rattled Roosters (a high energy Rock-a-billy band that he introduced to minor chords) after which he formed his own band The Colorifics with singer Lindsey Davis. Also interested in acoustic music Bernard performs solo and with accompanyists. Though essentially the Colorifics' Composer and lyricist, Bernard also helps define the sound with his lush, lyrical guitar stylings and understated harmonies.

Melissa Bandura (Lead Vocals, Violin, Flute)

Melissa Bandura joined the Colorifics in 2007 and was swept into their latin-jazz-rock world. Adding a whimsy, bohemian flare with her fiddle chops and smokey sweet folk-jazz voice, Melissa's style has been embraced by the Colorifics who continue to experiment with new genres. Combining Melissa's quirky songwriting skills with Bernie's refined, creative yet nostalgic writing style, the Colorifics continue down the path of a timeless, catchy, and very danceable sound!

John Rule (Drums, Percussion, Vocals)

John Rule has been the drumming man with the Colorifics for over ten years. John's swinging style and his background in roots and jazz drumming made playing with the Colorifics and natural fit from the start. The broad appeal of the bands catalogue, with its infusion of Swing, Be-bop, Afro Cuban, Brazilian Bossa, Rock 'n' Roll and 60's 70's era American pop feels keep it fresh and fun and he is always proud to be part of a band that can really deliver the goods.

Eric Napier (Electric and Standup Bass, Vocals)

Eric Napier grew up in Montreal, and started smashing on the family piano and thrashing the guitar at a young age. Singing in church choirs eventually led to harder stuff including euphonium, trombone, a Fender Stratocaster and a wah wah pedal. After moving out West in 1989, he met briefly with the gurus on Burnaby Mountain for some musical science training, and soon found himself grinding away on the bass in East Van basements and on smoky stages throughout Cascadia and beyond. In 1997 he was called up to play bass with the Colorifics and has provided the low notes since then for countless shows, tours and recordings. Currently employed as an urban dinosaur herder in Vancouver, he also finds time to wield the thunderbroom in several other local outfits, and will karaoke on demand.
